Coal-derived graphene quantum dots (CQDs) emitting light of different colours after UV (ultraviolet) light exposure. Quantum dots are nanocrystals of semiconductor material that emit light when excited. The colours vary depending on the feedstocks of coal and processing methods that are used. CQDs could potentially be used to label viruses and biological tissues for diagnostic purposes. | |
