Light micrograph of butterfly wing scales on the forewing of Panacea prola. Panacea prola is a butterfly species of the family Nymphalidae, it occurs from Costa Rica to southern Brazil. The relatively large scales have fine longitudinal and transverse striations. Tropical moths often have not only pigmentation of the scales but also physical colouration caused by interference between the ridges of the scales.
