Stem with leaves and red berries of a heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica), an ornamental plant of the family Berberidaceae. Despite its popular names, this plant is not a bamboo. All parts of the Nandina domestica are poisonous, containing compounds that decompose to hydrogen cyanide. The berries also contain alkaloids such as nantenine. | |
