Male satin bowerbird (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus) at bower surrounded by blue plastic objects. It has collected these objects for its courtship display to impress female bowerbirds. Satin bowerbirds used to collect blue flowers, leaves, shells and snakeskins for their displays. However, the birds' courtship behaviour has adapted to plastic pollution in the environment. Satin bowerbirds find it easier to collect blue man-made objects than blue objects in nature. Photographed in Lamington National Park, Queensland, Australia. | |
