SPP1 bacteriophage, computer model. The bacteriophage SPP1 (Subtilis Phage Pavia 1) is a siphovirus that infects the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis. It was isolated in the Botanical Garden of Pavia. Italy. Its viral particle has an isometric icosahedral capsid with a diameter of 61 nanometres (nm) and a 190 nm-long non-contractile tail. The capsid is green (pentamer vertices) and blue (hexamers) and the tail rod is gold. | |
