Making of a bronze bust, illustration. The process from start to finish is shown from left to right. A clay core model of a head is created. A wax model is sculpted over the clay core and metal rods are inserted to stabilize it (third from left). The model is then encased in a ceramic shell. The ceramic shell is heated causing the wax to melt away leaving a mould. The ceramic shell is removed from the kiln and molten bronze is quickly poured into the mould. The casting is left to cool. The mould is broken open and final finishes can be added to the bust. | |
