Lilac-breasted roller (coracias caudata) nesting in a Camelthorn Tree (Acacia erioloba) in the Auob riverbed. Photographed in the Kgalagadi transfrontier park, Southern Africa. In previous years this nesting hole had been used by Pearl-Spotted Owlets. A photo showing the Owlet in the same hole can be found on the Science Photo Library website. The hole was originally created by woodpeckers as neither the owl nor roller actually hollow out trees. | |
