This Scrawled Sole (Apionichthys nattereri) was netted in the Loreto region of the Peruvian Amazon (2018). This species can be differentiated from the closely relates A. finis by the connective membrane that unites the caudal fin with the dorsal and ventral fins. These fishes inhabit sandy or muddy bottom areas where they can bury their bodies with their eyes protruding above the substrate. | |
