The Barrens Topminnow (Fundulus julisia) is a federally listed endangered species. Isolated populations inhabit only a few springs in the Barrens Plateau area of Cannon, Coffee, and Warren counties, Tennessee. The species has been displaced by Mosquito Fish (Gambusia affinis) and has suffered from habitat loss. This image depicts a male fish colored up for reproduction. The species is being bred in captivity and these populations are the best chance for the survival of this species into the future.
