The Yellow-tongued Anole (Anolis scypheus) is as cryptic as it is beautiful. These lizards can literally vanish into the leaf litter when you are trying to approach them. They eat small invertebrates in the leaf litter and low foliage. They also typically sleep up off of the forest floor, resting on thin twigs and vines. The species can be readily differentiated from other similar species by details from the males dewlap coloration and pattern. The specimen was photographed on the Rio Sucusari, Loreto, Peru, in 2018. | |
