One of the fishes often used as bait for larger fishes is a species locally known in the Iquitos region of Peru as the sardina (Triportheus sp. - Characiformes, characins). There are several species in the drainage systems of the upper Amazon region. Its not uncommon to see large schools of them feeding at the surface. This individual was photographed in Amazonian Peru, 2018. | |
