The Brown-banded Watersnake or Mountain Keelback (Helicops angulatus) is an aquatic species inhabiting the Amazon Basin. It can be found in several color morphs, the red/orange morph is striking. It feeds on frogs and fishes and is rear fanged with what is considered a mild venom - a well developed Duvernoy gland is present. This individual was observed around a pool in a tract of rainforest off of the main branch of the Amazon River, Loreto, Peru, 2018. | |
