Cluster of pyrite cubes. Pyrite is an iron-disulfide (FeS2), a common and widespread mineral, mined in many places as an iron ore. It fits the cubic crystal system, and well-developed crystals of pyrite can be perfect cubes (hexaeders). The crystal faces of the cubes can be either smooth or striated as seen in this example. The cubes are all intergrown, actual height of specimen is 130 mm. | |
