This illustration depicts the landscape and animals of the late Pleistocene (around 33 thousand years ago) based on dated fossil remains from the Burnham site in northwest Oklahoma, USA. Along with typical mammal bones from this period, dozens of artifacts thought to be indicative of human-controlled flaking activities, were also excavated from this site. Some archaeologists believe that these artifacts represent the earliest evidence of human habitation in North America. The illustration could be used to show Clovis"" or ""Paleo-Indians"". Pictured are mastodons (Mammut americanum), mammoths (Mammuthus columbi), Sloth (Nothrotheriops shastense), horses (Equus conversidens), camels (Camelops hesternus), bison (Bison latifrons), giant beaver (Castoroides ohioensis), fox (Vulpes vulpes), great blue heron (Ardea herodias), and Paleo-Indians (Homo sapiens)." | |
