Luna 16 lunar probe collecting lunar samples on the Moon, composite image. Luna 16 was an unmanned Soviet spacecraft designed to gather samples of lunar soil and return them back to Earth. The probe was launched on 12th September 1970 from the Baikonur cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, and returned 12 days later with 101 grams of lunar soil. | |
