Digitally manipulated light micrograph of a cross section of passionflower bud (Passiflora caerulea). There is a outer ring of alternating petals and sepals which can only be distinguished by the presence of a hook, or awn, at their tip. These surround a double ring of rod-like coronal filaments. Five anthers (male reproductive structures) are present and each is separated from the coronal ring by a filament. The ovary (female reproductive structure) is located at the centre of the bud. Magnification: X 6.5 at 10cm wide. | |
