Edwardsosmilia faujasi is a solitary coral that lived attached to the bottom of shallow tropical seas during the Cretaceous period all over Europe and beyond. It features numerous very thin and frail septa which account for its rare preservation as a complete fossil. Edwardsosmilia belongs to the Anthozoa, a class of marine invertebrates that includes sea anemones, stony corals and soft corals. Actual size of this specimen is that of a small pear and it is from Cretaceous beds in S Limburg, the Netherlands. | |
