Small rosette-shaped aggregates of microcrystalline calcite on a substrate of quartz. Calcite is the most stable variety of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It is a widespread and common natural mineral, the building material of shells, corals, limestone and marble. Actual width of sample is 145 mm. Provenance is Ametista Do Sul, Brazil, a locality more renowned for its gorgeous amethysts. | |
