Shelf cloud and lightning over countryside in western Nebraska, USA. A shelf cloud forms when cold air from a thunderstorm drops beneath a cloud and moves outwards from under it. This pushes warm air up over the top of the cloud, forming a gust front that can lead to the formation of a new thunderstorm. Photographed on 16th May 2019. | |
