Paper is the obvious recycling material but new materials are being developed. RSPB uses a compostable wrap for their members magazines BioMail wrap which contains potato starch, a by-product of potato chip and crisp manufacturing industry in Northern and Eastern Europe. It is fully biodegradable and compostable according to EN 13432. It has also achieved the OK Compost HOME certification awarded by TUV Austria and is fully machinable within Royal Mail and allows for automated sorting qualifies for Royal Mail Mailmark discounts. The material breaks down over time when put in a compost bin. The FSB uses a different material, a recyclable plastic. It is a standard polyethylene ( polyethene ) wrap but is part of a growing movement by some stores to recycle plastic wraps and bags. | |
