Jupiter's clouds, illustration. High-altitude winds (red arrows) have been observed in Jupiter's atmosphere, with upwellings (orange arrows) from deeper in the atmosphere bringing a range of chemicals to higher altitudes. Some of these form clouds, and produce the colours seen in Jupiter's atmosphere. Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, is mostly hydrogen and helium, but there are also extensive clouds of ammonia crystals as well as some water clouds. | |
