Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA) interferometer telescope on the Chajnantor plateau,at 5000m in altitude in northern Chile. ALMA is the world's largest ground-based facility for observations in the millimetre and submillimetre wavelength range of the electromagnetic spectrum. The high elevation and low humidity conditions on the Chajnantor plateau help reduce the interference in signals from space caused by the Earth's atmosphere. ALMA is an international partnership among Europe, the USA,Canada,Japan,South Korea,Taiwan, and Chile. | |
