An Apollo command and service module on display in the Apollo/Saturn V Center at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, USA. The conical command module (at far right but not visible) housed a crew of three during the Apollo lunar missions of the late 1960s and early 1970s, while the service module provided power, oxygen and other services. The expansion nozzle of the SPS (service propulsion system) rocket engine is at left. Four clusters of four much smaller thrusters mounted around the cylindrical service module were used for fine adjustments. | |
