A real, flight model Apollo Lunar Module on display in the Apollo/Saturn V Center at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, USA. This is the LM-9 flight model, originally intended for the Apollo 15 mission; however, when the final three Apollo missions were cancelled Apollo 15 was upgraded as an extended duration mission and used a LM capable carrying a lunar roving vehicle. The LM has two main sections: a descent stage (gold coloured with legs) for the descent to the Moon and an ascent stage for the return to the command module in lunar orbit. | |
