SpaceX Crew Demo-1 approaching the ISS in Earth orbit, March 2019. SpaceX Demonstration Mission 1 (SpX-DM1) launched on 2 March 2019. This was the first orbital test of the Dragon 2 spacecraft, intended to take crew and cargo to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch took place as part of NASA's commercial crew program (Commercial Crew Development). The Crew Dragon 2 spacecraft successfully docked to the ISS on 3 March 2019. It was not crewed, instead carrying a test dummy. The spacecraft's nose cone is open, revealing its docking mechanism that was used to attach to the international docking adapter attached to the forward end of the Harmony module. | |
