19th century French engraving captioned: Monstre a figure humaine. A monster is any creature, usually found in legends or horror fiction, that is often hideous and may produce fear or physical harm by its appearance and/or its actions. The word usually connotes something wrong or evil. A monster is generally morally objectionable, physically or psychologically hideous, and/or a freak of nature. Conjoined twins are identical twins born with their bodies joined at some point and having varying degrees of residual duplication, a result of the incomplete division of the ovum from which the twins developed. This may be an example of Cephalopagus conjoined twins. Two faces on opposite sides of a single, conjoined head. The upper portion of the body is fused while the bottom portions are separate. These twins generally cannot survive due to severe malformations of the brain. Also known as janiceps (after the two-faced god Janus) or syncephalus. | |
