Heart Nebula (IC 1805), optical image. This nebula is located around 7500 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Cassiopeia. The nebulosity at lower right is known as NGC 896. The nebula's intense red output is caused by radiation from a small group of stars (Melotte 15) near the nebula's centre. This open cluster of stars includes some bright stars nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun. Photographed in 2017 from the Cumeada Observatory in the Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve, Portugal. | |
