Adeno-associated virus (AAV), illustration. This is a small virus 20 nanometres in diameter that infects humans. The virus causes a very mild immune response but not known disease. In many cases, AAV vectors integrate into the host cell genome, which can be important for certain applications as gene therapy vectors. The AAV capsid is composed of 60 monomers arranged in icosahedral symmetry. | |
