Brown rice (Oryza sativa). Brown, or whole grain, rice has not had the bran (aleurone and pericarp) and germ removed. The process to produce white rice, known as polishing, extends the shelf life and many consumers prefer its taste and texture. However, the bran and germ contains a high proportion of the fibre and nutrition in the grain. Brown rice is a whole food. This organic rice is grown in the south of France, in the region around the mouth of the River Rhone and the Camargue marshes. | |
