A chemistry teacher heating up a small amount of water in a soda can and placed it on a bunsen burner allowing the water to boil out. When the soda can was filled only with water vapor we inverted it into a bowl of cold water. The vapor in the can condensed into liquid (which takes up a smaller volume) and the pressure on the outside of the can was higher than the inside so the can was crushed by the vacuum created within. | |
