This mantispid was photographed in the rainforests of Loreto, Peru, Nov 2013. Mantispids are in the order Neuroptera and family Mantispidae. These predatory insects have been organized into roughly 44 genera containing over 400 species; most species are from the world's tropics and subtropics. It appears that in some species of Mantispids, the larvae eat spider eggs. Some species, such as this one, may be wasp mimics. | |
