A Ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) sunning itself at dawn. These lemurs like to sunbathe in the mornings to warm themselves. More often than not they are seated with arms outstretched as if they are worshipping the sun. This lemur is found in south-western Madagascar. It feeds mostly on leaves and fruit, but will also eat small invertebrates. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. This lemur is the most terrestrial of the lemurs, spending a third of its time on the ground.
