European beaver (Castor fibre) carrying alder (Salix glutinosa) branches for winter food storage and to feed young across a freshwater lake. This beaver is living in wetland in Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK, as part of a captive breeding programme that hopes to reintroduce wild beavers to Wales. Beavers were found in Wales until the 16th century, when they were hunted to extinction for their fur. | |
