Archilochus of Paros, 7th-century BC Ancient Greek poet. Archilochus was a lyric poet, active during what is known as the 'Lyric Age of Greece'. The poetry was typically sung or chanted with the accompaniment of a musical instrument called a lyre. It was also known as melic (melodic) poetry. Archilochus was considered by the ancient Greeks as one of their foremost poets. Artwork published in 1887. | |
