Trochite limestone and fossils, bright-field light micrograph. This sedimentary rock was originally laid down around 235 million years ago in the Triassic. It is named for the trochite fossils found in it, the traces (visible here) left by ancient animals known as sea lilies. Other fossils found in this rock include bivalve shells, mollusc shells, and brachiopods. This specimen is from Venusberg near Aidlingen, Heckengau, Boblingen, Germany. Thin-section specimen.
