Ash plume rising from a vent on Kilauea, a volcano on the main island of Hawaii. This column of robust, reddish-brown ash was produced at 12:46 HST (Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time) following a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on the South Flank of Kilauea that shook the Big Island of Hawaii. This volcanic activity is part of the eruptive episode that began in May 2018, known as the 2018 lower Puna eruption. Photographed on 4 May 2018. | |
