Male ruff (Calidris pugnax) in breeding plumage. The ruff is a migrant, and spends the breeding season in moist grasslands in northern Europe and Eurasia. In the winter it heads south to wetlands in southern Europe, Africa and parts of southern Asia. It is a wader, feeding on insects, frogs and small fish, with some plant matter as well. | |
