Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece, lit by lights in the evening. This Doric temple was dedicated to the Ancient Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena. It was built in the hill-top citadel of the Acropolis in Athens from 447-438 BC. In turn a Christian church and a Turkish mosque, it was finally used as a gunpowder store before being reduced to ruins when the Venetians bombarded the Acropolis in 1687.
