Pleomorphic adenoma behind the ear of a 50-year-old man. This is a type of benign (harmless) tumour, and the most common type of salivary gland tumour (here, the parotid gland). Although the tumour is harmless, it can grow to large proportions, hindering jaw function, and may turn malignant (cancerous) if left untreated. It is treated by surgical removal. | |
