Greyhound. 1856 illustration of a greyhound. Greyhounds are sight hounds, a breed of domestic dog ((Canis lupus familiaris) bred for racing and hunting game. They have the second-fastest acceleration of any land animal on the planet after the cheetah, and can reach a full speed of 70 kilometres per hour (43 mph) within 30 metres, or six strides, travelling at almost 20 metres per second for the first 250 metres of a race. | |
