Phenacodus, illustration. This extinct prehistoric mammal is an a example of an ungulate (hoofed animal). It lived about 55 million years ago, from the Late Palaeocene to the Middle Eocene. It reached around 1.5 metres in length, and is thought to have been herbivorous. Its fossils have been found in North America. | |
