Ethel Kovach, pioneering US Air Force nurse
Ethel R. Kovach (1916-2004), pioneering US Air Force nurse. Kovach was the fourth chief nurse of the US Air Force. She helped to write the first flight nurse manual and helped establish the aerospace nursing course. She entered military service in 1942, where she pioneered techniques for air evacuation of wounded solders in the South Pacific during World War II. She was appointed chief of the Air Force Nurse Corps in June 1963, a position she held until 1968. She was the second wife of US Air Force colonel Winfield W. Scott (1911-2006).
