Coloured photograph of the Stari Most (Old Bridge) in Mostar, Herzegovina, taken between 1890-1900. This bridge, spanning the Neretva river, was built by the Ottomans and completed in 1566. At the time it was the widest man-made arch in the world. The bridge was destroyed on 9th November 1993 during the Bosnian War. It was rebuilt, opening in 2004, with local materials using Ottoman construction techniques to be as similar to the original as possible. | |
