Guanacos (Lama guanicoe). The guanaco inhabits a range of habitats in South America. It is found in the high arid areas of the Andes mountains, and also at sea level in the colder, more southern parts of its range. It lives in small herds dominated by a single male, containing several females and young of various ages. The guanaco is a herbivorous mammal that eats grasses, shrubs and other vegetation and plants. Photographed in September, in Patagonia, a region of southern South America. | |
