Puma cub with its mother
Puma (Puma concolor) cub with its mother. Also known as the cougar, mountain lion or panther, this big cat is a solitary and territorial predator. It is carnivorous, hunting any animal it can catch. It ranges from North America to South America. Cubs are born with spots, which are lost as they age. Juveniles remain with their mothers at least for two years, when they leave to establish their own territory. Photographed in September, in Patagonia, a region of southern South America.
