Large hairy armadillo (Chaetophractus villosus). Armadillos are mammals found in South America, with a distinctive banded turtle-like shell (carapace). They have a long snout that is used with their front feet for digging. They mostly eat insects and other invertebrates that are dug out of the ground. This armadillo can reach 34 centimetres in length. It is found in the Pampas lowlands and in Patagonia. Photographed in September, in Patagonia, a region of southern South America. | |
