Orion spacecraft post-flight acoustics testing. Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1) Crew Module (CM) of the Orion spacecraft after undergoing Direct Field Acoustic (DFA) testing at the Lockheed-Martin (LM) Reverberant Acoustic Lab (RAL), in Waterton, Colorado, USA. DFA testing is an alternative method for spacecraft module acoustic testing. Its portability would allow testing at the Kennedy Space Center, reducing risks and costs. Several tests were carried out in different configurations. The data gathered will be used to develop predictive algorithms for future tests. Developed by NASA, the first Orion crewed launches are scheduled for around 2023. The Orion spacecraft are intended for use in Earth orbit, and for human exploration of the Moon, the asteroids and of Mars. Photographed on 2 March 2016. | |
