Dementia animal therapy. Dog being walked by a husband and wife who are using a service provided by a community-based dementia resource centre. Dementia is a general term for conditions that lead to changes in a person's ability to think, remember and function. The symptoms include memory loss, personality changes and confusion. Walking a dog is an example of an activity that helps stave off the effects of dementia. This dog is provided by the Kilmarnock Resource Centre, in Ayrshire, Scotland. The centre provides community-based support for those with a diagnosis of dementia, both under and over the age of 65. The resource centre offers a wide variety of groups and activities, as well as support from a dementia advisor and a dementia social worker. Photographed in 2016.
