The menaspidi (Menaspidae) are a family of extinct cartilaginous fish that lived in the Carboniferous and Permian period (340-270 million years ago). Their remains have been found in Scotland, Germany, United States and Australia.The front part of the body of some menaspidi (Menaspis and Deltoptychius ) was covered by a considerable reinforcement of boney plates.
