The London Eye detail. Formerly known as the Millennium Wheel, the London Eye was opened on the South Bank of the River Thames in London, England in 2000. It is 135 metres high and at 1600 tonnes is the tallest observational wheel in the world. 32 pods mounted on the 120 metre wheel take 30 minutes to complete a single revolution and, a distance of over 40 kilometres can be seen on a clear day.
